Find a Peer Supporter!

The OPSC strives to create an open and friendly environment at Osgoode where students feel comfortable finding support from peers and future professional colleagues. The Peer Support program does exactly that with our roster of students who are committed to being ambassadors for this cause. Students who seek support (be it emotional, social, academic, or more) are welcome to contact any of our Peer Supporters, who are ready to listen.

Anything you say will stay between you and your Supporter, although your Peer Supporter may suggest additional or alternate resources in exceptional circumstances. All Peer Supporters have signed a confidentiality agreement with the OPSC and have undergone both anti-oppression training and peer-support training. Any issues that go beyond the expertise of the peer-supporters will be directed to Ellen Schlesinger, Osgoode's Student Success and Wellness Counsellor.

Be a Peer Supporter!

Any current Osgoode student can apply to be a Peer Supporter, from 1L-3L! We welcome people of all backgrounds and experiences who have a passion to motivate and provide peer support to fellow students. If you'd like to contribute to making our school community a positive and open space, fill out our form below!

When a Peer Supporter has been accepted, he or she must sign a non-disclosure and participate in one training session. The Peer Supporter may be contacted anytime during the school year by the OPSC when there is a student seeking Peer Support services, and will participate in one-time conversations or on-going conversations, depending on the needs and abilities of both the peer and the Peer Supporter.

Peer Supporters are not expected to provide therapy, counselling, or other services requiring professional training but will be given a list of resources that they may provide to peers in circumstances that may require an added degree of sensitivity. Instead, a Peer Supporter does exactly what the name suggests, and is a friendly and non-judgmental listener when a student is feeling overwhelmed and needs to talk to someone who understands the stresses of law school and life.
